The town the British ran an empire from

A whole summer capital, hung on a hillside

For half the year, the entire government of British India used to pack up and move to a small hill town at 2,200 metres — files, viceroy, ballroom gowns and all. That town was Shimla, and once you've stood on the Ridge at sunset with the Himalayas going pink behind Christ Church, you understand exactly why they couldn't bear to run the country from anywhere else.

You get there the easy way. A cab reaches your gate in Faridabad, slips around Delhi on the KMP Expressway, and points north toward Chandigarh. Then comes the good part: at Kalka the plains end, the road tilts up, and for the next couple of hours it's all deodar forest, valley views and the kind of hairpins that make kids in the back seat go "whoaa."

You arrive with your ears popping, your phone full of photos, and a sudden, urgent need for a cup of chai and a sweater.

What keeps Shimla special isn't just the views — it's the walkability. The Mall and the Ridge are car-free, so the town moves at the pace of a stroll: bookshops, bakeries, the Gaiety Theatre, monkeys plotting on the rooftops. A Faridabad to Shimla taxi takes the one genuinely tiring part — the drive — off your plate, so you arrive with the energy to actually enjoy it.

The postcard Shimla: a butter-yellow neo-Gothic church glowing over the open Ridge, with the whole town gathered around it for evening walks, buskers and ice cream. Come at dusk when the lamps come on.

Jakhu Temple, Shimla — Faridabad to Shimla taxi | EZPZ Cabs

Jakhu Temple

A stiff climb (or a ropeway) up to a 33-metre Hanuman statue that watches over the whole valley — cloud-level, monkey-guarded, and quietly moving. Hold onto your specs; the monkeys are professionals.

Scandal Point, Shimla — Faridabad to Shimla taxi | EZPZ Cabs

The heart of the Ridge, named for a royal elopement that scandalised the Raj. Today it's where all of Shimla meets, gossips and poses — the best people-watching perch in the hills.

Step to the eastern edge of the Ridge and the Himalayas fan out in blue-and-white rows. On a clear morning you can see snow peaks that feel close enough to touch.

As the light goes, the tin roofs and deodar slopes turn gold, the Mall fills up, and someone somewhere starts roasting bhutta. This is the Shimla people fall for — and keep coming back to.

Why ride with us

Faridabad to Shimla, done the EZPZ way

A hill run is only as good as the person at the wheel, and that's where we quietly earn our keep. Our Shimla drivers know the Kalka climb by heart — where to slow for the blind bends, when to let the engine breathe, which viewpoint is worth the two-minute stop. And it starts easy: wherever you are — Sector 21, near NIT, out in Ballabgarh, a Greater Faridabad tower or by Neelam Chowk — the cab comes to your gate. The KMP Expressway does the rest, keeping you clear of Delhi's crush.

Real doorstep pickup

Anywhere across Faridabad & Ballabgarh — your gate, your hour, not a distant "meeting point".

A weekend that works

How a Faridabad–Shimla run usually unfolds

It's a proper hill drive, so plan for a night or two. Here's the rhythm most families settle into.

5:30 AM
Doorstep pickup in Faridabad. Beat the sun and the city. Onto the KMP and away.
9:30 AM
Breakfast near Karnal / Ambala. Parathas, chai, a leg-stretch. The plains part is quick and easy.
12:30 PM
Kalka — the hills begin. The road tilts up; windows down, the air turns cool and piney.
2:30 PM
Reach Shimla, check in. Drop the bags, grab lunch, and take that first slow walk on the Mall.
Evening
The Ridge at sunset. Christ Church glowing, the whole town out for a stroll, buskers on Scandal Point.
Next day
Kufri, Jakhu & back. Snow and views up at Kufri, the Hanuman climb at Jakhu, then an unhurried drive home.
A little insider timing

When to go — and what to pack for

March to June is classic Shimla weather — cool, bright, and exactly why the plains empty out toward the hills every summer. Book ahead, because everyone else has the same idea. December to February brings the magic word: snow. If you time it right, the Ridge under a white blanket is unforgettable — just carry proper layers and let us pick the safest driving window.

The monsoon (July–September) paints everything a startling green and thins the crowds, but hill roads can be slow after heavy rain, so keep the plan flexible. Whatever the season, throw a warm layer in the bag — Shimla is always a good few degrees cooler than the forecast makes you expect.

Small joys, big regrets if you skip them

Don't leave Shimla without…

…a slow walk down Mall Road with a hot cup of something and a paper bag of roasted nuts. …a plate of Himachali sidu or chha gosht if you can find a place that does it right, and a bun-samosa from an old Mall bakery just because. …a browse through the Lakkar Bazaar for carved walnut-wood keepsakes, and a box of local apples or apple jam for the drive home. Your cab has the boot space; your resolve to "travel light" does not.

Getting out of town, smoothly

The route: Faridabad → KMP → Chandigarh → Kalka → Shimla

Starting in Faridabad, the KMP Expressway lets you loop around Delhi and pick up NH-44 north — past Karnal and Ambala to Chandigarh, roughly the halfway mark and a good place to stretch. From Kalka the real drive begins: the road climbs through Parwanoo, Solan and Kandaghat, curling up nearly 100 km of forested hairpins to Shimla at 2,200 m.

It's long, so an early start is your friend — you clear the plains before the heat and reach the hills with daylight to spare. Fancy a scenic detour? The old Kalka–Shimla toy-train line shadows the road, and Solan's breweries and Kasauli's quiet make easy add-ons. Just tell the driver.

Before you book

Faridabad to Shimla — the questions people actually ask

How much does a Faridabad to Shimla taxi cost?
A Faridabad to Shimla one-way cab starts at about ₹3,960 for a hatchback and ₹4,702 for a sedan; SUVs and Innovas — the smarter pick for hill roads — cost a bit more. That's the base cab fare only; toll, parking, state tax and driver allowance are added as actuals and shown before you confirm.
How far is Shimla from Faridabad and how long does it take?
About 375 km and roughly 7–8 hours, since the last stretch from Kalka is all hairpins and mountain views. Starting in Faridabad you skirt Delhi via the KMP Expressway, so you're on the open highway sooner. An early start gets you to the Mall by evening.
Should I choose a sedan or an SUV for the hills?
For the Kalka–Shimla climb we usually suggest an SUV or Innova Crysta — more torque on the gradients and a smoother ride around the bends. A sedan is perfectly fine too; hatchbacks manage but a bigger car simply feels better on the hairpins.
Where in Faridabad will the cab pick us up?
Anywhere — Sector 21, NIT, Old Faridabad, Ballabgarh, Greater Faridabad or your society gate. Share the address at booking and the driver reaches your door at the hour you choose.
Can we add Kufri, Chail or Kasauli to the trip?
Absolutely. Kufri is a short hop for snow and views, Chail and Kasauli make lovely quieter add-ons, and Solan's vineyards are on the way. Tell us at booking and the driver plans the loop.
Is Shimla doable as a quick weekend from Faridabad?
Yes — leave Friday night or early Saturday, two days on the Ridge and around Kufri, back Sunday evening. It's a long-ish drive, so a round trip with the same car and driver is the relaxed way to do it.
Do you run cabs to Shimla in winter and snow season?
We do, weather permitting. Our drivers know the Kalka–Shimla road in the cold months; on heavy-snow days we'll advise the safest timing. Do carry warm layers — Shimla gets properly chilly.
Will the cab drop us right at our Shimla hotel, or only near the Mall?
Vehicles are restricted around the Ridge and Mall Road, so the cab drops you at the nearest permitted point (usually the Lift or Cart Road) where porters can help with bags. If your hotel has private vehicle access, the driver takes you as far up as allowed.
Is the Kalka–Shimla drive comfortable for kids and elderly passengers?
It's a winding hill road, so we suggest an SUV or Innova for a smoother ride, gentle breaks along the way, and motion-sickness tablets just in case. Our drivers take the bends calmly — comfort over speed, always.
Can we combine Shimla with Kufri, Chail, Kasauli or even Manali?
Yes. Kufri and Chail are short hops, Kasauli and Solan sit on the way, and adventurous travellers extend the trip over the mountains to Manali. Tell us the plan and the driver maps it out.
What should we pack for a Shimla trip?
Warm layers year-round (Shimla stays cool even on summer evenings), a heavier jacket and gloves in winter, comfortable shoes for the Mall and the Jakhu climb, and a light rain layer in the monsoon.
Are toll and taxes included in the fare?
No — the price shown is the base cab fare only. Toll, parking, state tax and driver allowance (₹600/night for overnight trips) are charged as actuals and always shown before you confirm.
