A little village on the banks of the Parvati river, wrapped in pine forest with snow peaks peeping over the ridge, it drew backpackers decades ago and never quite let them leave. Israeli cafés, jam sessions, riverside boulders and the smell of pine and woodsmoke — Kasol runs on slow mornings and slower afternoons, and it's the best base camp in the valley.
Getting there from Faridabad is a proper mountain journey, and that's half the point. Your cab reaches your gate, loops around Delhi on the KMP Expressway onto NH-44, and heads north through Chandigarh, Bilaspur and Mandi to Bhuntar — where the road turns up the Parvati valley and the river starts roaring alongside you.

Kasol sits on the banks of the roaring Parvati river, cradled by pine-covered slopes and snow peaks — "Mini Israel" to some, a slice of Himalayan heaven to everyone. Cafés, riverside boulders and mountain air: this is the valley people never quite leave.
The little market is all Israeli cafés, German bakeries, jam sessions and travellers swapping trail stories over shakshuka and apple pie. Slow, friendly and a touch bohemian — Kasol runs on riverside afternoons.
Step to the edge of town and the Parvati valley opens up in ridges of pine and rock, snow peaks glinting behind. Sunrise on those mountains, with the river roaring below, is worth the whole long drive.
A few km up-valley, the Gurudwara at Manikaran is a place of two miracles — deep devotion and natural hot springs so hot the langar's rice is cooked in them. Serene, steamy and utterly unique.
Sacred to both Sikhs and Hindus, Manikaran's sulphur springs steam straight out of the mountain — pilgrims bathe, and the temple kitchens use the boiling water to cook. A soak here after the drive is pure bliss.
Pitch a tent by the river, or trek up to Kheerganga's meadow and hot spring for the valley's most famous overnight hike. Chalal, Tosh and Grahan are easy walks too — Kasol is the base camp for all of it.

Most drive through the night and land in the valley by morning. Here's the rhythm.
March to June is peak Kasol — green valleys, comfortable days, and Kheerganga opening as the snow melts. It's busy, so book ahead. September to November brings crisp air and golden light with thinner crowds — a lovely window.
December to February is cold with snow higher up the valley — beautiful and quiet, but pack warm and let us pick safe driving times. The monsoon (July–August) is lush but can bring landslides on the Parvati road, so keep plans flexible. Nights by the river are cold year-round — carry layers.

From Faridabad the KMP Expressway loops you around Delhi onto NH-44 — Karnal, Ambala, Chandigarh — the fast first half. Past Kiratpur the new expressway smooths the run to Bilaspur and Mandi, and from Bhuntar the road turns up the Parvati valley alongside the river to Kasol and Manikaran. It's a big drive, roughly 520 km — which is why most go overnight.
