The old princely capital

Patiala, where Punjab kept its royal swagger

Some cities wear their history lightly. Patiala wears it like a grand starched pagri. Capital of the old princely state of the Patiala kings, this is the city that gave India the towering Patiala turban, the generous Patiala salwar, the colourful paranda — and, famously, the extra-large Patiala peg. Behind the fun sits real grandeur: painted forts, mirrored palaces and gardens laid out for maharajas.

Reaching it from Faridabad is an easy, familiar run. Your cab reaches your gate, loops onto the KMP Expressway and picks up NH-44 north to Rajpura, then a short hop into Patiala — a smooth, fast highway nearly all the way, with Punjab\'s wheat fields opening up around you.

Patiala doesn\'t do things by halves. Not its turbans, not its pegs, and certainly not its palaces.

There\'s the newly restored Qila Mubarak, the mirrored Sheesh Mahal glowing over its tank, the peaceful Banasar Bagh, and revered gurdwaras like Dukh Nivaran Sahib. And the food — from Patiala\'s legendary lassi to its rich Punjabi thalis. A Faridabad to Patiala taxi hands you the whole royal city with one car and driver, so you soak in the grandeur, not the logistics.

Six reasons to make the trip

A restored royal fort, a mirrored palace over a lake, and the style of old Punjab — here\'s what\'s waiting at the end of NH-44.

Qila Mubarak, Patiala — Faridabad to Patiala taxi | EZPZ Cabs

Qila Mubarak

The "blessed fort" at the heart of old Patiala — a 250-year-old royal complex of the Patiala kings, all painted halls, arcaded courtyards and a grand darbar. Recently restored, it's one of Punjab's finest surviving forts and the soul of the city.

Inside the royal fort, Patiala — Faridabad to Patiala taxi | EZPZ Cabs

Inside the royal fort

Wander Qila Mubarak's inner quadrangle and you find frescoed chambers, a treasury and a Sikh weapons gallery. The Patiala royals lived and held court here for generations, and the faded grandeur still whispers of durbars and diamonds.

Sheesh Mahal by night, Patiala — Faridabad to Patiala taxi | EZPZ Cabs

Sheesh Mahal by night

The "palace of mirrors", built by Maharaja Narinder Singh, glows beautifully after dark across its ornamental tank. Its frescoes and museum of medals and chandeliers make it one of Patiala's most romantic sights.

The Sheesh Mahal tank, Patiala — Faridabad to Patiala taxi | EZPZ Cabs

The Sheesh Mahal tank

Across the lake, the Sheesh Mahal and its Lakshman Jhula suspension bridge mirror in the still water — a favourite evening walk for Patiala families. Come at golden hour and the whole heritage quarter turns soft and gold.

Banasar Bagh & the tank, Patiala — Faridabad to Patiala taxi | EZPZ Cabs

Banasar Bagh & the tank

Set beside the Sheesh Mahal, the Banasar Ghar and its tank were once royal pleasure gardens. Peacocks, old trees and cool water pavilions make it a lovely, unhurried corner away from the city bustle.

A city of pagri, paranda & peg, Patiala — Faridabad to Patiala taxi | EZPZ Cabs

A city of pagri, paranda & peg

Patiala gave India the grand Patiala pagri (turban), the colourful paranda, the Patiala salwar and the famous large "Patiala peg". This is old-Punjab royalty and hospitality bottled — proud, generous and stylish to its bones.

A little insider timing

When to go — and what\'s on

October to March is the pleasant season for the forts and gardens. Patiala comes alive around Basant (the kite-flying season) and Baisakhi, and the Patiala Heritage Festival (usually February) fills Qila Mubarak with Punjabi music, dance and craft — a wonderful time to visit.

Summers are warm on the plains, so plan Qila Mubarak and the Sheesh Mahal for the mornings and evenings and let the AC handle the afternoons. Whatever the season, an evening by the floodlit Sheesh Mahal and a tall glass of Patiala lassi is the perfect way to end the day.

Small joys, big regrets if you skip them

Don\'t leave Patiala without…

…a wander through the restored Qila Mubarak and its darbar hall — non-negotiable. …an evening by the mirrored Sheesh Mahal across its tank. …a bowl-sized glass of the famous Patiala lassi and a rich Punjabi thali. …a quiet moment at Dukh Nivaran Sahib. And, if you\'re shopping, a colourful paranda and a proper Patiala jutti to carry home. Your cab\'s boot has room for it all.

Getting out of town, smoothly

The route: Faridabad → NH-44 → Rajpura → Patiala

From Faridabad the cab takes the KMP Expressway around Delhi and joins NH-44 north through Panipat and Karnal to Rajpura, then a short hop into Patiala — about 285 km of fast, well-kept highway with plenty of famous dhabas along the way. It\'s a comfortable one-day run.

Making more of it? Chandigarh and the tricity are a short drive on, Ludhiana sits close by, and Amritsar\'s Golden Temple makes a superb longer add-on. Tell the driver and the trip grows into a proper Punjab tour.

Before you book

Faridabad to Patiala — the questions people actually ask

How much does a Faridabad to Patiala taxi cost?
A Faridabad to Patiala one-way cab starts at about ₹3,060 for a hatchback and ₹3,622 for a sedan; SUVs and Innovas cost a little more. That's the base cab fare only — toll, parking, state tax and driver allowance are added as actuals and shown before you confirm.
How far is Patiala from Faridabad and how long does it take?
About 285 km, roughly 5.5–6 hours door to door. From Faridabad you take the KMP Expressway around Delhi and NH-44 north to Rajpura, then a short hop to Patiala — a smooth, fast highway nearly the whole way.
Can the cab take us to Qila Mubarak and Sheesh Mahal?
Yes — both sit in the old city, and the driver drops you as close as vehicles are allowed; the last lanes around Qila Mubarak are narrow, so a short walk or e-rickshaw finishes the journey. Share your plan and we'll get you as close as possible.
Can we add Chandigarh or Amritsar to the trip?
Absolutely — Chandigarh and the tricity are a short drive from Patiala, and Amritsar's Golden Temple is a longer but popular add-on. Many travellers build a Punjab loop. Tell us and the driver plans it with one car throughout.
Where in Faridabad will the cab pick us up?
Anywhere — Sector 21, NIT, Old Faridabad, Ballabgarh, Greater Faridabad or your society gate. Share the address at booking and the driver reaches your door at the hour you choose.
Which car is best for the Patiala trip?
For two, a hatchback or sedan is ideal. Families ride easiest in an SUV or Innova Crysta, and a group or wedding party wants a Tempo Traveller. All AC, all with verified chauffeurs.
Is Patiala a day trip or should we stay over?
It's about 5.5 hours each way, so a same-day return works for a focused visit. For Qila Mubarak, Sheesh Mahal, the gurdwaras and Patiala's famous food at a relaxed pace, one night is far nicer.
Do you provide cars for Patiala weddings?
Yes — Patiala is famous for its grand weddings, and we run sedans, SUVs, Innova Crysta and Tempo Travellers for guest transfers and multi-day event travel, with drivers who know the city's venues and palaces.
Can we visit the gurdwaras like Dukh Nivaran Sahib?
Of course — Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib is one of Patiala's most revered shrines, and the driver can include it along with Qila Mubarak and the Sheesh Mahal. Tell us at booking and we'll map the day.
What is the best time to visit Patiala?
October to March is pleasant for sightseeing. The Basant (kite) season and Baisakhi are colourful, and the Patiala Heritage Festival showcases Punjabi music and culture. Summers are warm, so plan the fort and gardens for mornings and evenings.
Are toll and taxes included in the fare?
No — the price shown is the base cab fare only. Toll, parking, state tax and driver allowance (₹600/night for overnight trips) are charged as actuals and always shown before you confirm.
