The Sun City of Rajasthan

Jodhpur, where a fort rules the sky and the streets go blue

Some cities have a fort. Jodhpur is one. Mehrangarh rises 400 feet straight out of the rock, and the whole blue city seems to have tumbled down its slopes — a sea of indigo houses, narrow lanes, temple bells and lassi shops, all under that unbroken Rajasthan sun. Founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, this is Marwar\'s proud heart, and it hits you the moment you arrive.

Getting there from Delhi is a long, easy glide. Your cab reaches your gate, heads via Gurugram onto NH-48, and runs through Jaipur and Ajmer — a fast, well-kept highway with good dhabas — before the land turns to desert and the fort appears on the horizon.

Stand on the Mehrangarh ramparts at sunset, look down at the blue city glowing, and you understand exactly why they call this the fort that never fell.

Beyond the fort lie the marble calm of Jaswant Thada, the grand dome of Umaid Bhawan Palace, and the buzzing Sardar Market around the clock tower. A Delhi to Jodhpur taxi takes the long drive off your hands, so you arrive with the energy to climb the fort and get gloriously lost in the blue lanes.

Six reasons the long drive pays off

A fort that never fell, a blue city, and Marwari palaces — here\'s what\'s waiting in the Sun City.

Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur — Delhi to Jodhpur taxi | EZPZ Cabs

Mehrangarh Fort

One of India's mightiest forts, rising 400 feet straight out of a rock over the blue city. Built from the 15th century by the Rathore kings, its walls are unbreached, its palaces jewelled, and the view from the ramparts — a sea of blue houses below — is unforgettable.

The ramparts & palaces, Jodhpur — Delhi to Jodhpur taxi | EZPZ Cabs

The ramparts & palaces

Inside Mehrangarh lie the mirror-worked Sheesh Mahal, the flower-painted Phool Mahal and courtyards where the old cannons still point over the city. Every gate and jharokha tells a Rathore story; give it a slow half-day.

Jaswant Thada, Jodhpur — Delhi to Jodhpur taxi | EZPZ Cabs

Jaswant Thada

A serene marble cenotaph beside the fort — the "Taj of Marwar" — built for Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Its thin, glowing marble, lily pond and quiet gardens make it the gentle counterpoint to the fort's might.

Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur — Delhi to Jodhpur taxi | EZPZ Cabs

Umaid Bhawan Palace

One of the world's largest private residences — a grand Art-Deco palace still home to the Jodhpur royal family, part museum, part luxury hotel. Its golden sandstone dome dominates the skyline; the vintage car collection alone is worth the visit.

The Blue City, Jodhpur — Delhi to Jodhpur taxi | EZPZ Cabs

The Blue City

Wander the old city and you're inside a maze of indigo-washed houses — the colour that gives Jodhpur its name and its magic. Rooftop cafes, tiny temples and the smell of spice; get lost here on purpose.

Ghanta Ghar & Sardar Market, Jodhpur — Delhi to Jodhpur taxi | EZPZ Cabs

Ghanta Ghar & Sardar Market

The clock tower is the beating heart of old Jodhpur, ringed by the bustling Sardar Market — spices, textiles, bandhani and the famous makhaniya lassi. Loud, colourful and gloriously alive; the best street food and shopping in Marwar.

The overnight-to-the-desert classic

11:30 PM
Past Jaipur. A tea stop on the smooth highway, then on toward Ajmer.

8:00 AM
Arrive Jodhpur, check in. Breakfast, then the climb up to Mehrangarh before the heat.
Day 1–2
Fort, blue city & palaces. Mehrangarh, Jaswant Thada, Umaid Bhawan and the Sardar Market lanes.

Home — or a Marwar loop. Drive back, or add Jaisalmer and Udaipur.
A little insider timing

When to go — and what\'s on

October to March is Jodhpur at its best — warm, clear days for the fort and cool evenings in the blue lanes. It\'s also peak wedding season, when the palaces light up. The Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF) around October, held right inside Mehrangarh, is a magical time to visit.

The Marwar Festival (around October) celebrates Rajasthani music and dance. Summers (April–June) are hot in the desert, so plan the fort for early morning and evening and let the AC handle the afternoons.

Small joys, big regrets if you skip them

Don\'t leave Jodhpur without…

…a sunset from the Mehrangarh ramparts over the blue city — non-negotiable. …a glass of the famous makhaniya lassi at the clock tower. …an hour getting lost in the indigo lanes of the old city. …a plate of Rajasthani thali and mirchi vada. And if there\'s time, the marble calm of Jaswant Thada and the vintage cars at Umaid Bhawan. Your cab\'s boot has room for all the bandhani you\'ll buy.

Getting out of town, smoothly

The route: Delhi → NH-48 → Jaipur → Ajmer → Jodhpur

From Delhi the cab heads via Gurugram onto NH-48 — the fast Jaipur highway — then rolls on through Ajmer, Beawar and Pali to Jodhpur, about 600 km of mostly smooth, well-kept road with plenty of Rajasthan dhabas. It\'s a long but easy run, which is why the overnight-to-the-fort plan works so well.

Making a loop of it? Jaisalmer (the golden desert city) is the classic add-on, Udaipur and Mount Abu round out a Rajasthan tour, and Pushkar sits on the way back. Tell the driver and the route grows into a proper Marwar-Mewar circuit.

Before you book

Delhi to Jodhpur — the questions people actually ask

How much does a Delhi to Jodhpur taxi cost?
A Delhi to Jodhpur one-way cab starts at about ₹6,210 for a hatchback and ₹7,402 for a sedan; for a run this long most families choose an SUV or Innova, which cost a bit more. That's the base cab fare only — toll, parking, state tax and driver allowance are added as actuals and shown before you confirm.
How far is Jodhpur from Delhi and how long does it take?
About 600 km, roughly 10–11 hours with breaks. From Delhi you head via Gurugram onto NH-48 through Jaipur and Ajmer, then across to Jodhpur — a fast, well-kept highway most of the way.
Overnight drive or break the journey?
Both work. Many leave Delhi late evening and drive overnight to arrive by morning; others break at Jaipur or Ajmer for the night and finish fresh. Tell us your style and we'll plan it.
Which car is best for the Jodhpur trip?
For the distance we recommend an SUV or Innova Crysta for comfort over long hours; a sedan is fine for two, and a Tempo Traveller suits big groups and wedding parties. All AC, all with verified chauffeurs.
Where in Delhi NCR will the cab pick us up?
Anywhere — Connaught Place, Dwarka, Saket, Rohini or your home, and across Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. Share the address at booking and the driver reaches your door at the hour you choose.
Can we combine Jodhpur with Udaipur, Jaisalmer or Mount Abu?
Absolutely — Jodhpur is the gateway to Marwar. Jaisalmer's desert, the lakes of Udaipur and the hills of Mount Abu all pair beautifully, and many travellers build a Rajasthan circuit. Tell us and the driver plans it with one car throughout.
Do you provide cars for Jodhpur destination weddings?
Yes — Jodhpur is a favourite wedding destination, and we run sedans, SUVs, Innova Crysta and Tempo Travellers for guest transfers and multi-day event travel, with drivers who know the palace and haveli venues.
Is Jodhpur worth a long-weekend trip from Delhi?
It's a long drive, so 3–4 days is ideal — travel, two full days for the fort, the blue city and the palaces, and back. A round trip with the same car and driver is the relaxed way to do it.
What is the best time to visit Jodhpur?
October to March is ideal — pleasant days for the fort and cool evenings in the old city. The Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF) around October at Mehrangarh is spectacular. Summers are hot, so plan sightseeing for mornings and evenings.
Will the cab reach the old city and the clock tower?
The driver drops you as close as vehicles are allowed near Mehrangarh and Sardar Market; the old blue-city lanes are narrow, so the last short stretch may be a walk or auto. Share your hotel and we'll get you as close as possible.
Are toll and taxes included in the fare?
No — the price shown is the base cab fare only. Toll, parking, state tax and driver allowance (₹600/night for overnight trips) are charged as actuals and always shown before you confirm.
