Delhi to Agra, at a glance
Few day trips from Delhi are as rewarding as Agra. The Yamuna Expressway runs almost dead straight for 233 km, so the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and even Fatehpur Sikri can all be seen between a sunrise start and a relaxed evening return. With the same car and driver waiting through every stop, the pace is yours — reach the Taj for the cool, golden first light, and be home in Delhi by night.

Six wonders of Agra
A Mughal capital in marble and red sandstone — three of these are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Taj Mahal
The white-marble wonder of the world — Shah Jahan’s monument to love glows pink at dawn, white by noon and gold at dusk. Reach for sunrise to beat both the heat and the crowds.

Agra Fort
A vast red-sandstone citadel of palaces, mosques and audience halls — and the tower where Shah Jahan spent his last years gazing at the Taj across the Yamuna.

Fatehpur Sikri
Akbar’s perfectly preserved ghost capital in red sandstone — Buland Darwaza, the Panch Mahal and Jama Masjid, frozen in time.

Mehtab Bagh
The “moonlight garden” across the river — the finest, most peaceful view of the Taj at sunset, with none of the main-gate rush.

Itimad-ud-Daulah
A jewel-box tomb of inlaid marble that inspired the Taj itself — delicate, intricate and gloriously uncrowded.

Akbar’s Tomb, Sikandra
The grand resting place of the great Mughal emperor, set in a deer-filled garden — an easy stop as you enter or leave the city.
Things to do in Agra
Watch the marble shift from pink to pearl-white as the sun comes up — the definitive Agra moment.
See artisans set semi-precious stones into marble — the same pietra dura craft that decorates the Taj.
The city’s famous translucent pumpkin sweet, plus Mughlai kebabs and dalmoth in the old bazaars.
The across-the-river garden gives the calmest, most photogenic view of the Taj at dusk.
An evening theatre retelling of the Shah Jahan–Mumtaz love story at Kalakriti — good after a long day.
A little further out, the Chambal river safari brings gharials, dolphins and rare birds.
